FOREST INVESTMENT MANAGER

PricewaterhouseCoopers administers the Forest Investment Account’s Land Base Investment Program (“LBIP”) and the Forest Science Program (“FSP”) on behalf of the British Columbia Ministry of Forests.  The purpose of the Forest Investment Account (“FIA”) is to assist government to develop a globally recognized, sustainably managed forest industry. 

The LBIP is the largest of the seven programs under FIA, comprising investments in land base activities planned and delivered by licensees in accordance with government standards. These investments are directed toward high priority, cost effective forest productivity and sustainability initiatives that promote enhanced forestry, environmental preservation and restoration. 

The FSP funds forest science initiatives that address the critical knowledge and information needed to enable science-based sustainable management of British Columbia’s forest resources. The program focuses on applied research in the areas of sustainable forest management and improving timber growth and value, and achieving more effective use of forest science results through extension. 

As Investment Manager you will be responsible for: evaluating investment proposals; preparing contracts; monitoring investment progress; overseeing advances, adjustments and payments; managing financial and performance audits; providing reports to the Forest Investment Council and participating in the management of program issues.  You will be responsible for ensuring that all work is completed and documented in accordance with our prescribed standards, while demonstrating strong technical knowledge and the ability to research and resolve issues.  You will be expected to continuously communicate and be an active member of the PwC FIA Team. 

Your background includes a forestry or biology degree (wildlife experience) ideally coupled with experience in finance and ten years forest resource management experience in the forest industry. You are a competent analyst, able to make sound decisions with a demonstrated ability to work in a multitasked, fast-paced and changing environment while overseeing a sizable investment portfolio. Your leadership, organizational, analytical, communications and reporting skills are exceptional. You can communicate and liaise effectively with industry and government officials with a strong commitment to providing excellent client service.  

Candidates should be a registered professional forester with the ABCFP (or eligible for registration) or registered with the College of Applied Biology of BC (or eligible for registration).  Candidates that have other combinations of education and experience may be considered.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and knowledge.

As an Investment Associate, you will assist PwC’s team of Investment Managers in evaluating investment proposals; preparing contracts; monitoring investment progress; preparing and conducting financial and performance audits; and participating in the management of program issues.  You will be responsible for ensuring that all work is completed and documented in accordance with our prescribed standards, while demonstrating strong technical knowledge and the ability to research issues, present alternatives and conclusions to Investment Managers and external recipients of the funding.  You will be expected to continuously communicate with the Investment Managers and/or Partner with respect to work progress. 

Your background includes a forestry or biology degree (wildlife experience) ideally coupled with some experience in finance and approximately five years of forest resource management experience in the forest industry. You are a competent analyst, able to make sound decisions with a demonstrated ability to work in a multitasked, fast-paced and changing environment. Your organizational, analytical and reporting skills are exceptional. Your interpersonal skills allow you to thrive in a team environment.  You can communicate and liaise effectively with industry and government officials with a strong commitment to providing excellent client service.
